The Rector of the University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, gave a speech, followed by a greeting from the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences, Prof. Nikolaos Iriotis.
The former President of the Department, Professor Stylianos Kotsios, referred to the contribution of the honoree to the Department of Economics, while Prof. Evangelia Papapetrou presented the scientific and wider work of Professor Stournaras. The Honorary Volume was presented by the President of the Department, Prof. George Dotsis.
The honorary volume was presented by the Rector of the University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siaso.
Mr. Ioannis Stournaras, then gave a speech on "The upheavals in the international economic balances, the eurozone and the Greek economy".
The ceremony, which was attended by members of the academic community, representatives of institutions and associates of the honoree, highlighted the University of Athens' firm commitment to the recognition of excellence and contribution to economic thinking and practice. Mr. Ioannis Stournaras, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Economics of the University of Athens, he has served, among others, as Governor of the Bank of Greece and member of the Board of Directors of the European Central Bank. His long-standing contribution to academic research, economic policy-making and public administration was the starting point for the decision to award him this honorary degree.
