It was held with particular success in Europa Experience Athens the scientific event:
"Deliberative Democracy and Sustainable Development: Students Design Tomorrow" co-organized by the "Philosophy and Administration" Postgraduate Program.
The event highlighted the importance of deliberative democracy as a field of active participation, evidence-based argumentation and democratic education, in connection with the contemporary challenges of sustainable development, social justice, risk management and youth participation in shaping the common future.
The first part included greetings and panel discussions with the participation of academics, experts and representatives of organizations. On the part of the Postgraduate "Philosophy and Administration", a greeting was delivered by the Director of the Program, Professor Andreas Papandreou, while the Program's lecturers, Professor Panagiotis Pantazakos and Dr. Antonios Alevizos, participated in the panel.
In the second part, a student deliberative democracy competition was held, with the participation of teams from the Department of Sociology of the National University of Athens and from Departments of the University of the Peloponnese.
The students developed arguments around the relationship between democracy, sustainable development and risk management, practicing democratic dialogue, listening, critical thinking and evidence-based debate.
The event confirmed that democracy is not only an institutional process, but also an education of speech, participation and responsibility.
