Short biography Thanasis Maniatis is a graduate of the Department of Business Administration of the Athens University of Economics and Business Administration and completed his postgraduate studies in Economics (PhD in Economics) at the Department of Economics of the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research, New York, USA. He taught in the USA at Long Island University at Brooklyn and at the New School for Social Research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while from 1995 to 2005 he worked as a Scientific Researcher at KEPE while teaching at the same time at the Department of Economics of the University of Athens from where he retired in 2025 as a Professor in the field of Marxist Political Economy. He served as Scientific Director of the Postgraduate Studies Program in Economics of the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens from 2015 to 2020 and Scientific Director of the Postgraduate Studies Program in Political Economy of the same Department for the years 2019-2025.
Since 2025, he has been an Emeritus Professor of the Department of Economics of the University of Athens, while his research interests focus on the fields of Marxist Political Economy, the Political Economy of the Welfare State, and Income Distribution and Poverty.
