- REQUEST TO EXCEED THE MAXIMUM DURATION OF STUDY FOR TWO (2) SEMESTERS OF STUDY - Deposit via eprotocol.uoa.gr - Application #22
Applications must be submitted within the exclusive period of thirty (30) days from the issuance of the grades for the September examination period, during which the maximum period of study of paragraph. 1 of Article 76 (Law 4957/22). During the extension period, it is not possible to apply for part-time attendance and interruption of studies.
2) 21_Application for exceptional exceeding of the maximum duration of study - SERIOUS HEALTH REASONS - Deposit via eprotocol.uoa.gr - Application #21 for serious health reasons related to:
i) on the person of the student and/or,
ii) the person of a first-degree relative by blood or marriage or a person with whom the student has entered into a civil partnership. The student may choose one or both cases, if there is a serious health reason for the student's own health and that of a relative. For serious health reasons involving the person of a first-degree relative by blood or marriage or a person with whom the student has entered into a civil partnership, is required, in addition to the above, and a recent certificate of marital status or a recent copy of a cohabitation agreement.
The student concerned, in order to be granted an excess of the maximum duration of study, submits online (https://eprotocol.uoa.gr/) or in person or by courier to the Secretariat of the Department of the School of his/her relevant application, which serves as a solemn declaration and is accompanied by the required, if applicable, supporting documents, as below: A certificate from a health committee of the Disability Certification Centre (KEPA) or a certificate from the Supreme Health Committees of the Army (A.S.Y.E.), Navy (A.N.Y.E.), Air Force (A.A.Y.E.), Hellenic Police or Fire Brigade, showing certified disability and the exact percentage thereof, or a medical certificate from a Public Hospital (of the E.The medical certificate is stamped by: a) the Coordinating Director of a Clinic or Laboratory or b) the legally acting Coordinating Director of a Clinic or Laboratory or c) a faculty member of the rank of University Professor or Associate Professor and by the Director of the Medical Service of the Hospital.
The opinion should describe the degree of the condition as severe or very severe. If the disease is not a chronic or incurable disease, the opinion should also indicate the possible recovery time that will be required, so that the additional time granted by the relevant School or Department will be commensurate.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE SUSPENSION OF STUDIES
SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS FOR INTERRUPTION OF STUDIES
According to the provisions of paragraph 1 of article 76 of the Law 4957/2022 (A 141) Students who have not exceeded the maximum study limit may, upon application to the Secretariat of their Department, interrupt their studies for a period not exceeding two (2) years.
The right to discontinue studies may be exercised once or in parts for a period of at least one (1) academic semester, but the duration of the interruption may not exceed a cumulative two (2) years if granted in parts. Student status is suspended during the interruption of studies and participation in any educational process is not permitted and the student is not entitled to the benefits arising from his/her student status nor to the use of the facilities of the Institution (Student Hall, Library, etc.)
After the requested suspension period expires, the student automatically regains student status. The interruption time does not count towards completing the maximum duration of study, the student returns to a regular study status, with the rights and obligations he/she had before the interruption of studies or the lifting of the interruption cannot take place in the middle of the semester.
ATTENTION:
During the last academic year before completing the maximum period of study, an application for suspension of studies is only allowed to students who have accumulated at least seventy-five percent (75%) of the required teaching and credit units to complete their studies.
Instructions:
The application for interruption of studies is submitted to the Department Secretariat before the start of the semester and no later than within the first ten (10) days from the start of classes in each semester. The student submits (electronically) https://eprotocol.uoa.gr/ by connecting to his/her academic account, i.e. with the username and password they use to log in to my-uni or with Taxis codes (for newly admitted Students) by selecting the # application20 "Application for suspension of partial attendance" and attaching the following application form and all relevant supporting documents proving this, to the Secretariat of the relevant Department, for as many semesters, consecutive or not, as desired.
The start of the interruption has retroactive effect from the beginning of the semester, regardless of the date the application was submitted. In exceptional cases, and for reasons of force majeure, it is possible to submit the application after the above deadlines have passed, according to the judgment of the School / Department Assembly.
They submit attachments (for those students who have the following benefits): Academic Identity Card (for its cancellation by the Secretariat), a certificate from the Department Library that they do not owe books and a certificate of room delivery from the student dormitory (for those who were residing).
First-year students submit a request to discontinue their studies once the process has been completed.
INFORMATION ABOUT PART-TIME STUDIES
Students submit an application to the Department Secretariat at the beginning of each Academic Year (September 1 to September 15) via electronic protocol on the website eprotocol.uoa.gr selecting the application
- Suspension application - Partial attendance
According to Government Gazette 142/5-8-2025, article 130, During the last Academic Year before completing the maximum duration of study of par. 1 (n+2), an application for part-time study is only allowed to students who have accumulated at least seventy-five percent (75%) of the required teaching and credit units for the completion of their studies..
Students may enroll in a part-time study regime (in accordance with the provisions of article 34 of law 4777/2021, Government Gazette 25/17.2.21, issue A as amended and in force by article 79 of law 4957/2023 Government Gazette 141/21.7.22, issue A, with article 130 of law 5224/2025 Government Gazette 142/05.08.2025, issue A, as well as the 981st Decision of the Senate of the University of Athens, Government Gazette 133/19.01.2022, issue B) if they belong to in the following categories:
a) Students who have proven to work at least twenty (20) hours per week,
b) Students with disabilities and special educational needs, Certificate of Illness (if they have not submitted it with their registration) from the special Seven-Member Hospital Committee, according to the circular of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, under reference F. 25Ι/171726/Α5/4-11-2019, which concerns the certification by the KEPA of specific categories of candidates with disabilities and special educational needs or those suffering from serious illnesses.
c) Students who are also athletes and during their studies belong to sports clubs registered in the electronic register of sports clubs of article 142 of Law 4714/2020 (A' 148), which is kept at the General Secretariat of Sports (G.S.A.) under the following conditions:
ca) For the years in which they occupy 1st to 8th place in Panhellenic individual sports championships with the participation of at least twelve (12) athletes and eight (8) clubs or compete in teams of the two (2) higher categories in team sports or participate as members of national teams in Panhellenic championships, world championships or other international events under the Hellenic Olympic Committee, or
cb) participate at least once, during their studies in the study program for which they are applying for part-time study status, in Olympic, Paralympic Games and Deaf Olympic Games.
d) Students who are in a confirmed pregnancy for the duration of pregnancy and for up to one (1) year after the date of delivery.
e) Students who have minor children up to the age of eight (8) years.
f) Students who are proven to face chronic or serious health problems, as well as students with special educational needs.
The certificates of cases a and c must be submitted again to the Department Secretariat at the beginning of each Academic Year, in order to determine whether the reasons for joining a part-time study regime still apply.
Notes: Newly admitted students will submit the relevant application on the day of their registration.
JUSTIFICATIONS:
Working students:
Certificate from the Service (if it is a Public Service) or a solemn declaration from the employer issued through gov.gr (alternatively, the certificate must be certified with the original signature), that the student works at least twenty (20) hours per week.
Students with disabilities: Certificate of Illness (if they have not submitted it with their registration) from the special Seven-Member Hospital Committee, according to the circular of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs under reference Φ.25Ι/171726/Α5/04.11.2019, which concerns the certification by the KEPA of specific categories of candidates with disabilities and special educational needs or those suffering from serious illnesses.
Athletes (only those who fall under the categories). That is, they must belong to sports clubs registered in the Registry of the General Secretariat of Sports and, for the years they have received distinctions during their studies, must present supporting documents, if they are not in their registration file.
Pregnant students: Medical certificate for pregnancy
Students with minor children up to 8 years old: Family Status Certificate
Students with chronic or serious health problems: Medical certificate from a Public Hospital.
Note
The Department/School Assembly may request clarifications on the submitted supporting documents or additional information/supporting documents to clarify the submitted supporting documents. The decision of the Department/School Assembly is immediately communicated to the interested party by e-mail, while the Department Secretariat updates his/her electronic record.
