Election of Associate Professor Stella Tsani to the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP) of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.

Ms. Stella Tsani, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, was elected by the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) as a Member of the Multidisciplinary Experts Panel (MEP), representing the Western Europe and Other Countries Group (WEOG).

IPBES is an intergovernmental organization under the auspices of the United Nations, with a mission to strengthen the science-policy interface in the field of biodiversity and ecosystem services. The Multidisciplinary Expert Panel is the central scientific body of the Platform and is responsible for the scientific quality, credibility and multidisciplinary nature of the assessments and other IPBES deliverables.

The election of MEP members is carried out by the IPBES Plenary following proposals from member states and regional groups, and constitutes high-profile international recognition for contributions to scientific research and policymaking at a global level.

The election of Associate Professor Stella Tsani reflects her extensive research and scientific work in the fields of sustainable development, environmental economic analysis and natural resource economics, as well as the interface between science and policy.

This significant distinction further strengthens the international presence and contribution of the University of Athens and the Department of Economics to critical global issues.
