The main purpose of the course is to understand the deep and two-way interdependence of the economy and the natural environment. This will reveal the causes of nature degradation and public remedies for proper management and protection of the environment which is the foundation for sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Content:<\/strong> The environment provides crucial natural services and resources for economic growth and prosperity. Economic analysis is essential both to understand the causes of environmental problems and to remedy them. The course addresses issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, energy crisis, food sufficiency, GMO use, pollution and natural resource management. Examples of innovative solutions such as CO\u2082 emissions trading, traffic pricing and the concept of the monetary value of life are also presented.<\/p>\n<p>The course includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to the principles of environmental and natural resource economics, including cost-benefit analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Principles for the use of renewable and exhaustible resources.<\/li>\n<li>Environmental policy planning with emphasis on air and water pollution and global problems.<\/li>\n<li>The relationship between development, environment and equality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Teaching aids<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tom Tietenberg &amp; Lynne Lewis (2010), Economics of the Environment and Natural Resources, 8th Edition, Gutenberg Publishers<br \/>\nSylvie Faucheux &amp; Jean-Francois Noel (2007), Economics of Natural Resources and the Environment, Gutenberg Publishers<br \/>\nTietenberg, T.
